But what if I'm a girl? Both guys and girls have identical muscle fiber types. It's just that guys have a larger quantity. If you train two identical fibers with the same stimulus they will both adapt exactly the same. Same muscle fibers, same RELATIVE potential for improvement!

 

 

Before I started I was a 5'10 volleyball player who could only touch 9'1”. Jumping isn't a trait in my family as you can see.

 

Because I had no access to a weight room, I took the non-weight program and have gained 4 inches in the 8 weeks, going on half inch increments a week.

I've been training the vertical jump for the last 10 years. And I've been working with other athletes to build their verticals to new levels for the last 6 years! But it wasn't always like this for me.

I mean, I tried all the programs… the shoes, the repetitive training programs… and I managed to gain a couple inches…  but I still wasn’t able to dunk…

 

Oh I could hang on the rim… but it was still those same few guys who would throw down crazy dunks and it just ate me up inside!

 

In fact, I can still remember laying awake at night imagining how great it would feel to slam even a single dunk like Vince Carter in the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest. I mean, I didn't even know a person could do a "360 windmill against the grain" until I saw him do it. And mouthing to the camera "It's over....it's over."

 

So I started telling myself  that I’d never be able to dunk like that… It was the hand I was dealt and I should just be content watching the Sprite slam dunk contest once a year.

 

Maybe this sounds like someone you know… maybe it sounds just like you…

 

Well...

 

A couple years later when I went off to college the situation changed for me… I finally hit my breaking point after I actually got beat in the triple jump by a girl on my team!

 

It probably helps the ego a little that this same girl just finished 5th in the Olympic trials for the US in 2008 though... lol.

 

So after talking with some of the All-Americans on my college Track team and trying to figure out why they were dominating the NCAA…  I started to see the big picture… and I started gaining on my vertical… fast!

 

I was eventually able to dunk a basketball just standing under the rim, no drop step… no run up… nothing… now I’m only 6 feet tall.

 

With a run was able to knock those foam tiles out of the ceiling with my head… and the ceiling was over 9 feet 3 inches high!
